How much does a website cost in 2026? Real prices for Swedish businesses

A business website costs SEK 15,000–60,000 to build and SEK 2,000–8,000 a year to run. Here is what drives the price, and what you actually get.

The short answer: a professional website for a Swedish business costs SEK 15,000–60,000 to build, plus SEK 2,000–8,000 a year to run. If you build it yourself in a tool such as Wix or Squarespace, you end up at SEK 1,500–4,000 a year plus your own time. An online store with payments and stock management starts at around SEK 60,000.

The long answer is more useful, because the range tells you nothing about what you get. Two quotes for SEK 30,000 can mean completely different things. This guide goes through what actually drives the price, so you can read a quote and understand what you are paying for.

Price levels in 2026: what you get for your money

Do it yourself: SEK 1,500–4,000 a year

You build the site on a template-based platform. The cost is the subscription, the domain and your time. Expect 20–40 hours to get something you dare to show people.

It works when you need a digital address: opening hours, contact details, a few photos. It stops working when the site has to be a sales channel. The templates are built to suit everyone, which makes your site look like everyone else's, and you have limited control over what determines rankings on Google.

Freelancer: SEK 8,000–25,000

A freelancer usually builds in WordPress with a purchased theme that gets customised. You get a site that is yours, at a cost most small businesses can manage.

What you should check: who owns the code, what happens when the freelancer gets busy, and are updates included? A WordPress site that is not updated becomes a security risk within a year.

Web agency: SEK 25,000–80,000

Here you get a team instead of one person: strategy, design, development and content. The site is built towards a goal (more quote requests, more bookings, more calls), not just towards a nice design.

The difference from the freelance level rarely lies in the technology. It lies in the work before the coding: who the customer is, what they need to read before they get in touch, and which keywords the site should win. This is also where search engine optimisation is built in from the start instead of becoming a project the year after.

Online store: SEK 60,000–150,000 and up

Products, payments, shipping, stock and returns. Each integration is a small project of its own. Add transaction fees of 1.5–3% on every order.

Running costs: what always gets forgotten

A website is not a one-off cost. The following comes on top regardless of who builds it:

  • Domain: SEK 130–300 a year for a .se address
  • Web hosting: SEK 800–4,000 a year depending on traffic and requirements
  • SSL certificate: often free via Let's Encrypt, sometimes SEK 500–1,500 a year
  • Updates and security: SEK 2,000–6,000 a year for WordPress
  • Content and small changes: varies entirely with how active you are

Expect SEK 2,000–8,000 a year for a typical business site. Sites built in modern frameworks often have lower running costs than WordPress, because there are fewer parts that need to be kept up to date.

What actually drives the price

When you compare quotes, these are the things that set them apart:

Number of pages. A home page, three service pages, an about page and a contact page is a different job from forty pages with subpages.

Custom design or template. A customised template costs a fraction of a design drawn specifically for your business. Both can turn out well, but they cost different amounts.

Content. Is the agency going to write the copy and source the images, or are you providing them? Copy and photography are often 20–30% of the project. Many quotes quietly assume that you supply the content, and the project then stalls for months when it does not arrive.

Features. Booking system, customer portal, multiple languages, integration with business systems. Each of these is development, not design.

SEO from the start. Structure, page speed, heading hierarchy and the technical foundation. Building it in costs little. Adding it afterwards costs a lot.

What a cheap website costs in the long run

A SEK 8,000 site that does not bring in a single enquiry is more expensive than a SEK 50,000 site that brings in two customers a month. That is the only calculation that matters.

Work backwards from what a customer is worth. If an average customer gives you SEK 25,000 in profit, the website needs to bring in two customers a year for a SEK 50,000 investment to break even in year one.

The most common ways a cheap site becomes expensive:

  • It does not show up on Google, so you have to pay for ads instead
  • It loads slowly on mobile, and visitors leave before the page appears
  • You cannot change anything yourself without calling someone
  • It has to be rebuilt after two years

What to ask before you sign

  • What is included in the price, and what costs extra?
  • Who owns the code and the content when the project is finished?
  • Can I update texts and images myself?
  • What is included in ongoing maintenance, and what does it cost per year?
  • How do we measure whether the site is working?
  • What happens if we want to add something in a year?

A clear answer to all six questions tells you more about a supplier than the price does.

How we price at Solva

We do not publish fixed package prices, for a simple reason: a fixed price forces a fixed solution, and that rarely fits. A business that needs three pages and good local visibility should not pay for the same thing as a business that needs a customer portal.

Instead we look at what the site needs to achieve, what that requires, and give a fixed price for it. You can see how we work under our packages, or get in touch and we will price your case.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a website cost per year?

Expect SEK 2,000–8,000 a year for a typical business website. That covers the domain (SEK 130–300), web hosting (SEK 800–4,000) and updates and security. If you build it yourself on a template platform you are at SEK 1,500–4,000 a year, and for an online store with more traffic it can be SEK 5,000–20,000.

Can you make your own website for free?

Yes, platforms such as Wix and WordPress.com have free tiers. You then get an address that contains the platform’s name, ads on the site and limited control over the technology behind it. That works for a private project, but for a business that wants to be taken seriously and appear on Google, its own domain is in practice a minimum requirement, and it only costs SEK 130–300 a year.

How much does a WordPress website cost?

A WordPress site built by a freelancer usually costs SEK 8,000–25,000, and by an agency SEK 25,000–60,000. On top of that come web hosting and ongoing updates of around SEK 2,000–6,000 a year. WordPress itself is free. The cost lies in design, setup and maintenance.

How much does it cost to run an online shop?

An online store costs SEK 60,000–150,000 to build, depending on the number of products and which integrations are needed. Running costs add SEK 5,000–20,000 a year plus transaction fees of 1.5–3% on every order. Shopify and similar platforms lower the start-up cost but instead charge a monthly fee and a share of sales.
